CanHike Walking Group Stories
We all enjoy the social aspects of walking and there are many places to walk around Canberra and the ACT.
Meet some of our walkers and discover what it’s like to walk with us.
Regular walking can help you cope with stress, anxiety, and depression by releasing endorphins, the feel-good hormones.
Nature walks can enhance your mood, self-esteem, and creativity, while also building muscle strength and decreasing the chance of chronic diseases.
But if you truly want to give your mental wellbeing a boost, walking in a social group can take your experience to the next level.
When you join a walking group, you can meet and bond with others who also appreciate walking and spending time outside.
It can also expose you to many environments, cultures, and different perspectives that can enhance your life.
Getting involved with a regular walking group can also have the benefit of helping to motivate each other to keep going and explore unknown places together.
So how can you find a local walking group?
Walking with others can make your walks more fun, social, and rewarding. So don’t hesitate to reach out and find your walking buddies. You’ll be glad you did!
If you are in Canberra, (home of the Aussie Peace Walk MarchMingle), there are many social hiking and outdoor walking groups to choose from.
We are very fond of the CanHike Weekly Mingle.
CanHike is an intercultural walking group that values cultural diversity and social harmony. Except in exceptional circumstances, there’s a CanHike Mingle walk in the ACT every week. You’ll find the CanHike walking calendar here.
Canberra’s oldest walking group (established in 1975), Walking For Pleasure has roughly 350 members.
Most of their walks are mid-week and some walks attract 30 to 40 walkers.
Many members of this group can be seen volunteering at the Aussie Peace Walk each year.
